Our Mission Statement:

Since its inception, Medlab has consistently served the medical community with quality workmanship and careful attention to client needs and requests. The laboratory is well known for its focus on testing accuracy and rapid turn-around times. Medlab stays in touch with new developments in the pathology field and is committed to introducing a wider range of laboratory tests in Ghana.

Quality control with regard to laboratory performance in terms of adherence to specific procedures and limits assures the accuracy and reliability of all clinical data used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The quality control programme involves regular and systematic surveillance of all key components, including patient results, quality control results, procedural compliance, preventative equipment maintenance and proficiency testing results. CDC (USA) has accorded Medlab the status of a reference laboratory for West Africa on Good Laboratory Practice and Management.

The very sensitive nature of patient care necessitates that the services offered comply with specifications and are properly tested and certified as complying with the relevant standard. Strict protocols govern patient identification and confidentiality.

Medlab’s most valuable asset is its staff. It sets new standards for others to follow, in that the safety, health, training and development of employees are given the highest priority.

Medlab has access to an excellent referral laboratory and pathology specialists in South Africa. Specimens are being sent weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Serology

SeeologyThe word serology means the detection of antibodies to a particular antigen. This is an important fact to keep in mind when evaluating the role of Serology as a diagnostic tool.

Antibodies appear in the circulation as part of an immune response to the presence of an antigen or infective agent. Antibodies therefore are merely indicators of exposure to an infective agent and often only appear during the convalescent phase of an infection. The timing of a specimen is therefore crucial for the interpretation of serology results.

The following serology tests are performed:

  • Anti-Streptolysin O Titre (ASOT)
  • C-Reactive Protein (CRP)
  • Helicobacter IgG (Quantitative)
  • Infectious Mononucleosis
  • Rheumatoid Factor
  • RPR (VDRL) – Cardiolipin
